In one meeting, I was touched by the story of the woman caught in adultery (John 8:1-11). The sinful woman was shamed in public and the Pharisees wanted to stone her to death. Jesus, however, stood up for her and said to the crowd: “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her”. Eventually, everyone left because they realized that they were in no position to condemn the woman. Jesus then approached the woman to tell her that He will not condemn her and that she should sin no more.
This story reminded me of the times the Lord was with us at the lowest point of our lives. When we were attacked by the enemies, the Lord stood firm with us and defended us. Besides God, no one has the right to condemn or punish others because we have all sinned – even the Pharisees and the crowd understood this in the story. Yet despite our sins and wrongdoings, God still loves and treasures us, and even forgave us to the point that He provided the sinners with the salvation to go back to God. God is truly full of love and mercy.
I treasure that when God helps us, He will help and be with us all the way. Jesus did not want to simply save the woman physically from death, but He wanted to heal her heart and give her spirit eternal life. From this, we know that the Lord also wants to give us the greatest blessings and eternal life.
